Organizations. They are our most represented form of client. From airlines to hospitals, we help our clients reduce the risk of undesired outcomes. In some cases the outcomes are already remarkable, such as the further reduction of risk of an aircraft accident. In other cases, the undesired outcomes come at an epidemic rate, such as the 150,000 annual number of adverse events simply from mislabeled specimens in our nation’s hospitals.
We work to help businesses create the outcomes they desire, most often in the area of unintended consequences (whether life-threatening or purely financial), where our clients are creating adverse outcomes they never intended to create. We teach the five skills: 1) Values and Expectations Alignment, 2) System Design, 3) the Management of Behavioral Choices, 4) the Design of Learning Systems, and 5) Justice. Our engagements range from a week of risk modeling around a particular undesired outcome, to a multi-year engagement to assist in cultural change.
We believe in our ideas. We think big. We challenge our clients to think big. Quantifiable reductions of adverse events and unwanted outcomes are possible with the application of the five skills. Better socio-technical outcomes – that’s what we commit to produce for our clients’ organizations.
